I began sewing at the age of 8 and have always loved to create my own projects. MyMom and Dad taught me to use my hands. Throughout my childhood, my parents let meexplore all areas of creativity. I learned how to sew, embroider, crochet, knit, macrame’,tool leather, tie flies for fishing, draw, use a potters wheel, made jewelry, did beadingpainting, and even did some woodworking. They pretty much encouraged me to tryeverything. Some things I did well, a lot of other things, not so well, but thank you to myparents for letting me try it!
It always seemed that whatever I tried or did, I always cameback to fabric!I have always loved the thrill of figuring out how to do something easier or faster ordifferent to make it fit my own needs and personality. I LOVE to applique’ as well aspiece.
Playing with color and touching the fabrics has always been fun for me and I feel agreat sense of satisfaction creating quilts and items from my favorite medium. There isjust something about fabric that makes me happy! In 2006 I started my pattern company called Under the Garden Moon. I love to share what I create, and hope someone learnssomething whenever they make one of my patterns. I have grown over the years andfeel like I learned to not be afraid to try something new or scary.A new division of my pattern line is ThreaDoodlydoos. These patterns incorporate handembroidery, mixing of textiles and fun embellishing.I have 8 children (haha – 4 of them married my kids), 16 grandchildren and I havebeen married to my cute and supportive hubby for 38 years.Amy McClellan – Under the Garden Moon – American QuiltingSearch Explore here.
I just got home from quilt market early this week where I debuted my new Wooly BOM called Daisy Days as well as a few other new patterns. It has taken me a few days to unpack – I now have lots of empty suitcases. Phew!
It was so fun to see several shop owners and visit for a few minutes. How great it is to connect with others who have the same passion (I’m going to be truthful here — addiction) about quilting, stitching, fabric, new designs etc. – All the things we quilters love. I took my 2 worker bees, Debbie and Heather, with me and we had so much fun – setting up the booth, walking around market, traveling across the beautiful bridges, taking in a baseball game and talking a whole bunch! What a fun week.
If any of you want to see my new designs, they will be added to my website underthegardenmoon.com within the next few days/weeks. Nights of azure 2 characters names. Daisy Days will be available sometime in July
Here are a few photos of my booth and a couple months of Daisy Days.
